Gender equality the key to entrepreneurial advancement

erala is intensifying its efforts to promote entrepreneurship with parallel focus on gender equality, Health Minister Smt Veena George quoted, speaking as she inaugurated Women Summit 4.0. She elaborated on the government’s vision and policy to make it compulsory to implement steps that encourage women to enter entrepreneurship and innovation in stronger numbers and steps like increasingly organizing programmes to up-skill and re-skill talents to increase their confidence. Startup Summit 4.0 was a two-day conclave by Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) in its efforts to further promote female participation in the founding companies.

KSUM ever since its establishment has been working for a long time to remove all obstacles towards gender neutrality in entrepreneurship. WSS 4.0 envisages the creation of a solid ecosystem for females which in turn would benefit the entire startup ecosystem in the state.

The Women Startup Summit4.0 aimed to accelerate & empower the women entrepreneurs in the startup ecosystem with technology & innovation and provide an opportunity to upskill and collaborate globally. The two-day summit featured a string of sessions with speakers who included founders and managing partners, predominantly women, of a range of successful companies. The summit featured sessions that promised to carry forward administrative ideas and make them fruitful. 30 live sessions addressed by 80-plus speakers in the presence of more than 500 delegates who were part of the two day event . With more than 100 products an expo was conducted on the second day of the event at Marriot Hotel, Kochi. On the first day of the summit at Technology Innovation Zone Kochi master-classes, workshops, pitch fest, SheLovesTech and Investor Café. The first day of the summit held a pivotal She Loves Tech India ’22 which was addressed by co-founder Leanne Robers. This was followed by She Loves Tech India national level pitching whose winners were announced on the next day . The day also hosted a pitching session on productization grants for women startups. The winners of both were announced on the second day of the summit and the winners of productization grants are set to get support of Rs 12 lakh. They will also be eligible for soft loans of Rs 15 lakh (6 percent interest) and seed funds. The inaugural day of the summit chiefly held four panel discussions and three fireside chats. The afternoon sessions featured three workshops and a pitching under ‘Investor Café’, before a panel discussion on Smart Steps.

Actress-dancer Ms Remya Nambeesan, addressed the inaugural ceremony on the second day, talked of how conventional gender biases cannot anymore stop women from becoming entrepreneurs in a changed world marked by renewed fighting spirit amid institutional support. KSUM CEO Mr Anoop Ambika, addressed the audience and talked about how entrepreneurship in the state merits newer ideas that cater to the needs of its geriatric people when Kerala has aged men and women contributing to 60 per cent of the population.

He also laid out the future plans on how KSUM is planning to set up community innovation centers in the state’s rural parts to scout talents in the villages as well as small towns to groom them. Further he added how the government is to work with NRIs in a bigger way to create new enterprises in the state through which KSUM can provide a view of leaders in “real action” from all across the globe.

The forenoon sessions of the day included a panel discussion on ‘Building Future India Through Startups’ after a dialogue on ‘Women Pulling the Indian Startup System.” The afternoon sessions were on ‘Leaders of Tomorrow’, ‘Overview about KSUM’, ‘Sustainable Future in Business’ and ‘Role of Media in Women Empowerment’.
